Why do you choose actuarial science? 
I liked mathematics and felt actuarial science could be a good fit for my strengths.

How do you know about this profession? 
I heard about this profession from a family friend that works directly with actuaries.

Where do you do your research on this profession? 
Online

Why you choose your university in the first place? 
University of Waterloo is one of the best universities for actuarial science program.  It also has a very good co-op program.

Do you have any other educational background other than Actuarial? 
I studies computer science and economics in university.

If you are a Manager, what kind of actuarial staff will you hire? Skills Sets, personality? 
I would look for a team player with strong analytical skills.  A strong programming background is a plus.

From your experience, how do you manage to study for exam while you are working full time?  
Being discipline is the key, setting up a study plan/schedule is also helpful.

How the company have support you in passing your exam and manage your workload? 
Companies provide study leave, and all study materials.  Usually, managers who were once actuarial student as well are well understood the exam situation and are very supportive to the student to ensure the student gets enough time to study.

My math is good and actuarial science is less boring compared to the pure math or statistics.

What is your career path?
I spent my first three years in the pension consulting. And I spent the next three years in the life insurance field till now.I

Do you have any other educational background other than Actuarial?
Statistics. But I think I forgot most of what I learned already.

If you are a Manager, what kind of actuarial staff will you hire? Skills Sets, personality?
Personatlity and potential, I would say.

From your experience, how do you manage to study for exam while you are working full time?
Quite frankly, I am very good at study during the last minute. I always started very late compared to other candidates. But once I start, I studies at full speed. 

How the company have support you in passing your exam and manage your workload?
Study Days and Study Materials are provided.  Frankly, I don’t see a significant decrease on my workload when I wrote my exam. So, well time management is recommended.

How do you enrich yourself during leisure time?
Travel, play card, computer games, wii, watch movies and TV series (24, prison break, hoeroes, Terminator - Sarah Connor Chronicles). I am also a NBA fan.  I watch more than 5 games per week

Why do you choose actuarial science?
Some “irresponsible” articles said that actuary is a career with high income but low stress level.  This is obviously NOT the “reality”.  But if you ask me to choose again, this would still be my choice.  All I want to say is, don’t choose it because of the salary survey you found online, choose it only if it is “right” for you.

Why you choose your university in the first place?
It is the only school offer Actuarial Science in “Beautiful British Columbia”.

What is your career path?
I was a pension actuary working in a leading consulting firm for 4 years.  I am currently working at corporate risk management with an insurance group.

Communications & Mass Media

If you are a Manager, what kind of actuarial staff will you hire? Skills Sets, personality?
Communication skills; good work ethic; smart; well-around
(It is even better if you are Chinese speaking and love shopping!)

From your experience, how do you manage to study for exam while you are working full time?
Use all your study days.  Don’t think about work when you are studying. Don’t think about study when you are working. 

How the company have support you in passing your exam and manage your workload?
Study days, paid textbooks, salary increase, all these good stuff. 

How do you enrich yourself during leisure time?
Try to find some non-actuarial friends to hang out with…they are cool!
